The Yuma Arizona Temple is a future house of the Lord that will serve members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in southwestern Arizona and surrounding areas. Announced in 2024, the temple will become the seventh temple in Arizona and will provide a much closer location for temple worship to members who have traditionally traveled long distances to attend the temple.
A Brief History
President Russell M. Nelson announced the Yuma Arizona Temple during the April 2024 General Conference on April 7, 2024. At the time of the announcement, Arizona was home to more than 440,000 members of the Church organized in approximately 925 congregations. The announcement continued the rapid expansion of temple construction throughout Arizona.
For many years, members living in Yuma and nearby communities traveled significant distances to attend the temple. Church leaders noted that members in the Yuma area currently travel approximately 171 miles to the San Diego California Temple. The new temple will dramatically reduce travel time for thousands of members in the region.
A major milestone occurred on November 24, 2025, when the Church announced the temple site and released the official exterior rendering. The temple will be constructed on a nearly 7-acre site at the corner of East 36th Street and South 8 East Avenue in Yuma. As of 2026, the temple remains in the planning phase, and a groundbreaking date has not yet been announced.
What Makes This Temple Unique?
The Yuma Arizona Temple is designed as a single-story temple containing approximately 18,500 square feet. Plans call for a temple that reflects the architectural character of the surrounding community while incorporating modern design principles focused on sustainability and efficient operation.
One of the temple's most important features is its location. Yuma sits in Arizona's far southwestern corner near both California and Mexico. For decades, members in this area have traveled several hours to attend temples in neighboring regions. The Yuma Arizona Temple will bring temple blessings much closer to home for members throughout the area.
The temple will feature a single attached end tower, a design that complements the surrounding neighborhood while creating a recognizable landmark. Church planning materials indicate that the grounds will include extensive landscaping with trees, flowers, and native desert plants intended to beautify the area and blend naturally with the local environment.
