The Yorba Linda California Temple is the 219th dedicated temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Located in Yorba Linda, California, the temple serves Latter-day Saints throughout northern Orange County and surrounding communities. A Brief History
President Russell M. Nelson announced the Yorba Linda California Temple during the April 2021 General Conference on April 4, 2021. At the time of the announcement, California was home to more than 750,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, making it one of the Church's largest membership areas. The temple became the ninth temple built in California and the second in Orange County, following the Newport Beach California Temple.
On July 15, 2021, the Church announced the temple site at 17130 Bastanchury Road, where an existing meetinghouse and baseball field once stood. The official exterior rendering was released on September 17, 2021, and groundbreaking services were held on June 18, 2022, with Elder Mark A. Bragg presiding.
The temple welcomed the public during a 23-day open house from April 30 through May 23, 2026 (excluding Sundays). Following the open house, President D. Todd Christofferson dedicated the temple on June 7, 2026, making it the 219th operating temple of the Church.
What Makes This Temple Unique?
The Yorba Linda California Temple contains approximately 30,872 square feet and features two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry. The temple is finished with beautiful Blanco Macael white marble accented by Rosa Porrino pink and gray granite, giving it an elegant appearance inspired by Southern California's historic Spanish architecture.
One of the temple's most distinctive features is its art glass. Designed by Holdman Studios and other artists, the windows incorporate palm motifs, colorful rondels, and patterns inspired by California's Spanish Mission heritage. The artwork uses soft greens, blues, whites, oranges, and yellows to reflect the natural beauty and warm climate of Southern California.
The temple also has an interesting history with the property itself. During the 1980s, the Church constructed a meetinghouse on the front portion of the site while the remaining land became a baseball field and gathering area for local youth activities. When plans for a temple were announced, those facilities were replaced to make room for the new house of the Lord, preserving the property's long history as a center of Church activity.
