The Willamette Valley Oregon Temple is the 218th dedicated temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Located in Springfield, Oregon, just east of Eugene, the temple serves Latter-day Saints throughout Oregon's scenic Willamette Valley. Dedicated in 2026, it became the third operating temple in Oregon, joining the Portland Oregon Temple and the Medford Oregon Temple.
A Brief History
President Russell M. Nelson announced the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple during the April 2021 General Conference on April 4, 2021. At the time of the announcement, Oregon was home to nearly 154,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in approximately 300 congregations. The temple was announced to better serve members throughout western and central Oregon.
On September 2, 2021, the Church announced the temple site on approximately 10.5 acres at the intersection of International Boulevard and Corporate Way in Springfield, Oregon. An official rendering was released the same day, showcasing an elegant design inspired by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Groundbreaking services were held on October 29, 2022, with Elder Valeri V. Cordón, First Counselor in the North America West Area Presidency, presiding.
The temple welcomed the public during a 16-day open house from April 23 through May 9, 2026, following media and invited guest tours. On June 7, 2026, Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf dedicated the temple, making it the 218th operating temple of the Church.
What Makes This Temple Unique?
The Willamette Valley Oregon Temple contains approximately 30,635 square feet and includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry. The temple features a graceful single attached central spire rising 119 feet above the surrounding landscape.
One of the temple's most distinctive characteristics is its design, which draws heavily from the lush Pacific Northwest. Decorative motifs feature mountain laurel flowers and repeating prism patterns inspired by the forests, rivers, and mountains of the Willamette Valley. Art glass and interior finishes reflect the vibrant greens of the surrounding vegetation and the blues of the nearby Willamette and McKenzie Rivers.
The exterior is clad in beautiful stone fabricated by Grupimar of Spain, while the 10.29-acre property is enclosed by an ornamental steel fence and thoughtfully landscaped to blend with the wooded surroundings of Springfield.
