The Vancouver Washington Temple will become the sixth temple in Washington and the second temple serving the Portland metropolitan area. Although named for Vancouver, the temple is being constructed in the neighboring city of Camas, Washington, where it will serve Latter-day Saints throughout southwest Washington and northwest Oregon. Construction is well underway, with the temple's exterior rapidly taking shape.
A Brief History
President Russell M. Nelson announced the Vancouver Washington Temple during the October 2023 General Conference on October 1, 2023. At the time of the announcement, Washington was home to more than 280,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in nearly 500 congregations. The temple was announced as the state's sixth temple, continuing the rapid expansion of temple construction throughout the Pacific Northwest.
On February 26, 2024, the Church announced the temple site on a 15.11-acre property at the northwest corner of SE 20th Street and SE Bybee Road in Camas. Plans call for a multistory temple of approximately 43,000 square feet. The official exterior rendering was released on September 3, 2024, giving members their first look at the elegant granite-clad design.
Groundbreaking services were held on August 23, 2025, with Elder Mark A. Bragg, General Authority Seventy, presiding. Since then, construction has progressed steadily. During 2026, crews completed the structural frame, installed exterior sheathing, began placing granite cladding imported from Spain, and continued work on the surrounding grounds and parking areas. Open house and dedication dates have not yet been announced.
What Makes This Temple Unique?
The Vancouver Washington Temple is being constructed as a 43,000-square-foot multistory temple featuring four instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and one baptistry. The exterior will be finished with elegant granite cladding and crowned by a 167-foot, 3-inch single attached end spire, making it a prominent landmark in southwest Washington.
Although the temple carries the name Vancouver, it is actually located in Camas, just east of Vancouver. Its location provides convenient access for members from Vancouver, Camas, Washougal, Battle Ground, Longview, and much of the Portland metropolitan area, complementing the nearby Portland Oregon Temple.
Another distinctive feature is the spacious 15.11-acre property, which allows for beautifully landscaped grounds and generous parking while preserving the peaceful atmosphere surrounding the temple.
