The Tulsa Oklahoma Temple will become the second temple in Oklahoma and will serve Latter-day Saints throughout northeastern Oklahoma. Located in southeast Tulsa near Broken Arrow, the temple is currently preparing for its groundbreaking ceremony, marking another important milestone in the growth of the Church across the state.
A Brief History
President Russell M. Nelson announced the Tulsa Oklahoma Temple during the October 2023 General Conference on October 1, 2023. At the time of the announcement, Oklahoma was home to more than 50,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in approximately 90 congregations. The temple will become the state's second temple, joining the Oklahoma City Oklahoma Temple, which was dedicated in 2000.
On August 12, 2024, the Church announced the temple site on a 25.7-acre property located northwest of the intersection of 51st Street and 136th East Avenue in southeast Tulsa, near the community of Broken Arrow. Plans call for a beautiful single-story temple with an accompanying central tower. The official exterior rendering was released on October 20, 2025, giving members their first look at the temple's elegant design.
Groundbreaking services are scheduled for August 22, 2026, with Elder Pedro X. Larreal of the United States Southwest Area Presidency presiding. As construction begins, the Tulsa Oklahoma Temple will become a significant new landmark for members throughout northeastern Oklahoma.
What Makes This Temple Unique?
The Tulsa Oklahoma Temple will contain approximately 29,600 square feet and include two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry. The temple will feature a single attached central tower, creating a graceful profile while maintaining one of the Church's modern, efficient temple floor plans.
The temple's 25.7-acre site provides ample room for beautifully landscaped grounds and future development. Located near Broken Arrow and easily accessible from major roadways, the temple will greatly reduce travel time for members throughout northeastern Oklahoma and neighboring portions of Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri.
The Tulsa Oklahoma Temple also represents an important milestone for Oklahoma. For more than two decades, members across the state have primarily attended the Oklahoma City Oklahoma Temple. The new temple will bring sacred ordinances much closer to thousands of Church members living in the Tulsa metropolitan area.
