The Taylorsville Utah Temple is the 192nd dedicated temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Located in Taylorsville, Utah, the temple serves members throughout the west side of the Salt Lake Valley. A Brief History
President Russell M. Nelson announced the Taylorsville Utah Temple during the October 2019 General Conference on October 5, 2019. The announcement came as membership growth continued throughout Salt Lake County, creating a need for another temple to serve the rapidly expanding west side of the valley.
On December 11, 2019, the Church announced the temple site at 2603 West 4700 South, where an existing stake center and recreational field once stood. After the necessary zoning changes were approved by the Taylorsville City Council in April 2020, construction officially began with a groundbreaking ceremony on October 31, 2020, presided over by Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
The temple welcomed the public during a 35-day open house from April 13 through May 18, 2024, attracting more than 265,000 visitors. Elder Gerrit W. Gong dedicated the temple on June 2, 2024, in two dedicatory sessions, making it the 192nd operating temple of the Church.
What Makes This Temple Unique?
The Taylorsville Utah Temple was designed in a pioneer-era Gothic architectural style, drawing inspiration from Utah's historic pioneer tabernacles. The exterior features elegant stone cladding, pointed arches, and intricate stained glass that incorporates stylized Utah wildflowers, including bird's-foot trefoil, Red Beauty bergenia, and broad-leaved gilia. The deep burgundy, lavender, and gold color palette reflects both Gothic architecture and the natural colors of the west side of the Salt Lake Valley.
The temple contains approximately 73,492 square feet and includes four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and one baptistry. A striking 216-foot, 9-inch octagonal central tower rises above the building, making it one of the tallest temple spires in Utah.
Another unique aspect of the temple is its location. Nearly half of the beautifully landscaped grounds are planted above underground structures due to the site's two-level parking design. This required innovative engineering while still creating a peaceful environment with mature trees, flower beds, and gathering spaces.

The temple does not have a visitors' center, arrival center, patron housing, or an on-site distribution center. Temple clothing rental is available, and baptistry clothing is provided. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the beautifully landscaped grounds surrounding the temple.
