The Tallahassee Florida Temple is the 202nd dedicated temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Located in Tallahassee, Florida, the temple serves members throughout North Florida, southern Georgia, and southeast Alabama. As the third operating temple in Florida, it significantly reduces travel time for thousands of Latter-day Saints living in the Florida Panhandle and surrounding regions.
A Brief History
President Russell M. Nelson announced the Tallahassee Florida Temple during the April 2020 General Conference on April 5, 2020. Before the announcement, many members in North Florida traveled approximately 260 miles to the Orlando Florida Temple to participate in temple worship. The new temple fulfilled a long-standing desire to bring a house of the Lord closer to members across the Panhandle.
On January 13, 2021, the Church announced the temple site at 2440 Papillion Way on a 4.97-acre property in northeast Tallahassee. An official rendering was released the same day, showing a beautiful single-story temple with a central tower. Groundbreaking services followed on June 5, 2021, with Elder James B. Martino presiding. During the ceremony, he described the temple as "a beacon of holiness and a place of peace" for the surrounding community.
The temple welcomed visitors during a 19-day public open house from November 4–23, 2024, following media and invited guest tours. Elder Patrick Kearon dedicated the temple on December 8, 2024, making it the 202nd operating temple of the Church.
What Makes This Temple Unique?
The Tallahassee Florida Temple contains approximately 29,255 square feet and features two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry. The exterior is constructed with precast concrete panels and crowned by a 125-foot single attached central tower. A distribution center is also located on the property, providing convenient access for members throughout the temple district.
The temple's design celebrates the natural beauty of North Florida. Magnolia blossoms, palmettes, live oaks, and native plants are woven throughout the architecture, artwork, and landscaping. The grounds feature iconic Southern trees including live oaks, magnolias, bald cypress, and several varieties of pines, while azaleas serve as the signature flowering shrub throughout the landscape. Inside, original artwork depicts scenes inspired by the region's forests, waterways, and rich natural environment.
The temple's classical architectural details draw inspiration from historic Southern architecture, incorporating decorative moldings, carved magnolia rosettes, and elegant Palladian-style columns that create a timeless atmosphere of reverence and beauty.

The temple does not have a visitors' center, arrival center, or patron housing. An on-site distribution center is available for purchasing temple clothing and garments. Temple clothing rental is not available, although baptistry clothing is provided. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the beautifully landscaped grounds surrounding the temple.
