The Star Valley Wyoming Temple is the first temple built in Wyoming and the 154th dedicated temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A Brief History
President Thomas S. Monson announced the Star Valley Wyoming Temple during the October 2011 General Conference on October 1, 2011. The announcement fulfilled a long-held hope for members in western Wyoming, who had previously traveled several hours to temples in Idaho or Utah. The temple became the first house of the Lord ever built in the state of Wyoming.
Groundbreaking services were held on April 25, 2015, with Elder Craig C. Christensen presiding. Construction moved quickly, and the temple welcomed visitors during a 15-day public open house from September 23 through October 8, 2016, allowing thousands of guests to tour the building before its dedication.
Elder David A. Bednar dedicated the temple on October 30, 2016, making it the 154th dedicated temple of the Church. It was one of the relatively few temples dedicated by a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles rather than a member of the First Presidency.
What Makes This Temple Unique?
One of the Star Valley Wyoming Temple's most remarkable features is its connection to the history of the valley itself. Early Apostle Moses Thatcher reportedly named the area Star Valley, calling it "the star of all valleys." The temple stands only about a mile south of the historic Star Valley Tabernacle, creating a beautiful connection between the Church's early history in the valley and its modern temple.
The temple contains approximately 18,609 square feet and features one instruction room, one sealing room, and one baptistry. Its exterior is finished with precast concrete panels, and a 123-foot single attached end spire topped with the angel Moroni rises above the surrounding countryside. The classical architectural design intentionally echoes elements found in the nearby Star Valley Tabernacle.
One of the most beautiful artistic features inside the temple is a stunning stained-glass depiction of Jesus Christ displayed in the foyer. The window originally came from a historic Presbyterian church in New York City before being carefully restored and incorporated into the temple, giving new life to a remarkable piece of Christian artwork.

The temple does not have a visitors' center, arrival center, patron housing, or an on-site distribution center. Temple clothing rental is not available, although baptistry clothing is provided. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the beautifully landscaped grounds and panoramic views of Star Valley.
