The Smithfield Utah Temple will be the 26th temple built in Utah and the second temple in Cache County, joining the historic Logan Utah Temple. Located in Smithfield, just north of Logan, the temple is being built to serve the rapidly growing communities of northern Cache Valley. With its traditional pioneer-inspired architecture and twin end towers, the temple honors the rich heritage of one of Utah's earliest Latter-day Saint settlements. As of today, construction is largely complete, with interior finishing work underway. Open house and dedication dates have not yet been announced.
A Brief History
President Russell M. Nelson announced the Smithfield Utah Temple during the April 2021 General Conference on April 4, 2021. The announcement marked another significant milestone for Cache Valley, where members had faithfully attended the Logan Utah Temple for generations. At the time of the announcement, the temple became the 26th temple announced for Utah.
On June 10, 2021, the Church announced a 13.3-acre site located at the intersection of North 800 West and West 100 North in Smithfield. Plans called for a beautiful three-story temple of approximately 81,000 square feet. An official exterior rendering was released on November 24, 2021, giving members their first look at the temple's classic design.
Groundbreaking services were held on June 18, 2022, with Elder Quentin L. Cook presiding. A native of Cache Valley, Elder Cook spoke of his love for the valley and prayed that the temple would become "a beacon light" for the communities it serves. Fellow Apostle Elder Gary E. Stevenson, who also grew up in Cache Valley, participated in the ceremony.
Since groundbreaking, construction has progressed steadily. As of mid-2026, major construction has been completed, crews are finalizing interior finishes and landscaping, and temple leaders have been called. The Church has not yet announced public open house or dedication dates.
What Makes This Temple Unique?
The Smithfield Utah Temple was designed to complement the history and architecture of Cache Valley. Unlike many newer Utah temples that feature a single central spire, the Smithfield Temple includes two attached end towers, echoing the design of several historic pioneer temples and creating a timeless appearance.
The temple will contain approximately 81,000 square feet and include four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and two baptistries. Its three-story design provides ample space to serve members throughout northern Cache Valley while preserving a warm, traditional architectural style.
The temple sits at an elevation of approximately 4,506 feet, surrounded by beautiful views of the Wellsville Mountains and the northern Cache Valley. The location allows the temple to be visible from much of the surrounding area while complementing the peaceful agricultural landscape that has defined Smithfield for generations.

The Smithfield Utah Temple is located at 755 West 100 North in Smithfield, Utah.
