The Saratoga Springs Utah Temple is the 18th temple built in Utah, the fifth in Utah County, and the 179th dedicated temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A Brief History
President Thomas S. Monson announced the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple during the April 2017 General Conference on April 2, 2017. At the time, Saratoga Springs and neighboring communities were among the fastest-growing areas in Utah, creating a need for another temple to serve the rapidly expanding population.
The Church selected a 22.71-acre site at the end of Founders Boulevard, overlooking Utah Lake. An official rendering of the temple was released on September 5, 2019, and groundbreaking services were held on October 19, 2019, with Elder Craig C. Christensen presiding. During the ceremony, Elder Christensen emphasized the temple's role in strengthening families and helping members make sacred covenants with the Lord.
Following construction, the temple welcomed an incredible 587,809 visitors during an 84-day public open house from April 15 through July 8, 2023—one of the largest temple open houses in Church history. President Henry B. Eyring dedicated the temple on August 13, 2023, making it the 179th dedicated temple of the Church.
What Makes This Temple Unique?
One of the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple's most distinctive features is its spectacular location. Built on a bluff overlooking Utah Lake, the temple offers sweeping panoramic views of the lake, the Wasatch Mountains, and Utah Valley. The entrance plaza includes a beautiful tiered water feature surrounded by manicured gardens and walking paths that invite quiet reflection.
The temple contains approximately 97,836 square feet and features four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and a baptistry. A graceful 199-foot, 9-inch central spire topped with the angel Moroni rises high above the surrounding community, making it one of the tallest temple spires in Utah.
The temple's exterior is finished with beige precast concrete panels and includes decorative bands inspired by the surrounding landscape. Art glass throughout the building incorporates colors representing Utah Lake and the Wasatch Mountains, while metal panels feature snowy egrets, a symbol closely associated with Saratoga Springs and its nearby wetlands. Local plant species were carefully selected to create a sustainable landscape that blends naturally with the surrounding environment.
Visiting the Temple
The Saratoga Springs Utah Temple is located at 987 South Ensign Drive in Saratoga Springs, Utah. The temple does not have a visitors' center, arrival center, patron housing, or an on-site distribution center. Temple clothing rental is available, although patrons are encouraged to bring their own clothing. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the beautifully landscaped grounds and scenic walking paths surrounding the temple.
