President Russell M. Nelson announced the Rapid City South Dakota Temple during the October 2024 General Conference on October 6, 2024. For many years, members living in western South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming traveled several hours to attend the Billings Montana Temple, Bismarck North Dakota Temple, or the Sioux Falls South Dakota Temple.
