The Price Utah Temple will become the 32nd temple in Utah and one of the newest temples announced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Located in Price, the heart of Carbon County, the temple will provide a much closer house of the Lord for members living throughout eastern Utah. As of today, the temple remains in the planning phase, with additional details—including its location, design, and construction timeline—to be announced in the future.
A Brief History
President Russell M. Nelson announced the Price Utah Temple during the October 2024 General Conference on October 6, 2024, as one of 17 new temples announced during the conference. The announcement was especially meaningful for members throughout Carbon, Emery, and surrounding counties, many of whom have historically traveled long distances over mountain passes to attend the Manti, Provo, or Vernal temples.
The announcement marked another milestone in the Church's continued effort to bring temples closer to members around the world. Although Utah already has more temples than any other state, the Price Utah Temple will greatly reduce travel time for members in the state's eastern region.
As of now, the Church has not announced an official temple site, has not released an exterior rendering, and has not announced a groundbreaking date. Planning and site selection are ongoing.
What Makes This Temple Unique?
The Price Utah Temple will be unique because it will become the first temple in Carbon County. For generations, faithful Latter-day Saints in eastern Utah have traveled across mountain passes—often through challenging winter conditions—to participate in temple ordinances. The new temple will make temple worship significantly more accessible for thousands of members throughout the region.
Another distinctive feature is its location in one of Utah's historic coal-mining regions. Price has long served as the economic and cultural center of eastern Utah, and the temple will become an important spiritual landmark for communities across Carbon, Emery, and nearby counties.
Like many newly announced temples, the final architectural style, site details, and landscaping have not yet been released.
