Where It's Located
The Phnom Penh Cambodia Temple is located at House No. 31, Street 228, Sangkat Boeng Raing, Khan Daun Penh, Phnom Penh 12211, Cambodia. Situated in the heart of Cambodia's capital city, the temple occupies a 3.16-acre site in a central urban neighborhood, providing convenient access for members throughout the country. The property includes temple housing, but there is no arrival center or visitors' center.
Getting There
The nearest major airport is Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH), located about 7 miles (11 kilometers) west of the temple. Travelers from the United States typically reach Phnom Penh through connecting flights from major Asian hubs such as Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, or Taipei. From the airport, the temple is generally a 25- to 35-minute drive, depending on traffic.
A Bit of History
The Phnom Penh Cambodia Temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the October 2018 General Conference on October 7, 2018. It is the first temple in Cambodia, representing a historic milestone for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the country. Prior to its announcement, Cambodian members often traveled to temples in Hong Kong or the Philippines, making temple worship a rare and expensive opportunity for many faithful Saints.
Groundbreaking services were held on September 18, 2021, with President Veasna Kuonno Neang of the Cambodia Phnom Penh Mission presiding. During the ceremony he remarked, "Today, a holy temple of God will begin its foundation representing the faithfulness, love and joy of the saints in Cambodia." Following construction, the Church announced a public open house from August 15–22, 2026, with the temple dedicated by Elder Patrick Kearon on August 30, 2026.
Design and Architecture
The Phnom Penh Cambodia Temple contains approximately 10,000 square feet (929 square meters) of floor space. Its design features a striking central spire surrounded by four smaller spires, giving it a unique appearance unlike many smaller temples built in recent decades. The elegant exterior blends modern temple architecture with design elements that complement Cambodia's rich cultural heritage.
Inside, the temple includes one instruction room, one sealing room, and one baptistry. Despite its modest size, the temple provides all the sacred spaces needed for temple ordinances while serving members throughout Cambodia. Its central location in Phnom Penh allows members from across the country to access temple blessings more easily than ever before.
Final Thoughts
The Phnom Penh Cambodia Temple marks a historic chapter for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cambodia. As the nation's first temple, it fulfills the hopes and prayers of generations of Cambodian members who previously traveled thousands of miles to worship in the temple. With its beautiful architecture and central location in Phnom Penh, it stands as a lasting symbol of faith and the continued growth of the Church throughout Southeast Asia.
