Announcement
The Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala Temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2023 General Conference on April 2, 2023. It will become the fourth temple in Guatemala, joining the Guatemala City Guatemala Temple, Cobán Guatemala Temple, and Huehuetenango Guatemala Temple. The announcement reflects the continued growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Guatemala, where more than 290,000 members worship in over 430 congregations. Unlike the original Guatemala City Temple, which serves the greater metropolitan area from the eastern side of the city, the Miraflores Temple will provide easier access for members living in western Guatemala City and surrounding communities. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)
Current Status
The Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala Temple is currently in the planning and approval phase. On December 9, 2024, the Church announced the temple site at Bulevar Miraflores 23-00, Zone 11, Guatemala City, adjacent to an existing meetinghouse. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 18,000 square feet (1,672 square meters). (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)
As of now, no official exterior rendering has been released, and no groundbreaking date has been announced. Church leaders continue working through the planning process before construction begins. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)
What to Watch for Next
The next major milestone will be the release of the temple's official exterior rendering, followed by the announcement of the groundbreaking ceremony. Once construction is underway, members can follow the project's progress until public open house and temple dedication dates are announced. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)
Nearest Operating Temple
Until the Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala Temple is completed, members continue to worship at the nearby Guatemala City Guatemala Temple, which has served the country since 1984. Once dedicated, the Miraflores Temple will help meet the growing demand for temple worship in one of Central America's largest metropolitan areas and reduce travel for many members living on the western side of the city. Final Thoughts
The Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala Temple marks another significant step in the continued growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Guatemala. As the country's fourth temple and second in Guatemala City, it will make temple worship more accessible for thousands of faithful members. Although still in the planning stages, the announcement of the temple site represents exciting progress toward the day this sacred house of the Lord will bless generations of Latter-day Saints throughout the region.
