Announcement
The Mendoza Argentina Temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the October 2018 General Conference on October 7, 2018. It will become one of several temples serving Argentina and reflects the continued growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout the country. Argentina is home to more than 490,000 members in over 730 congregations, making it one of the largest Latter-day Saint populations in South America. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)
Current Status
The Mendoza Argentina Temple is currently under construction. The Church announced the temple site on February 18, 2022, selecting a 5.22-acre property at the corner of Av. Champagnat and Calle Sarratea in Las Heras, part of the greater Mendoza metropolitan area. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)
The official exterior rendering was released on September 19, 2022, and groundbreaking services were held on September 24, 2022, with Elder Joaquín E. Costa, President of the South America South Area, presiding. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 21,000 square feet, accompanied by an arrival center and patron housing. Construction continues to make steady progress as work advances on the temple and its supporting facilities. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)
What to Watch for Next
As construction progresses, the next major milestones will include completion of the exterior, installation of interior finishes, landscaping, and eventually the announcement of public open house and temple dedication dates. These events will mark the final steps before the temple begins serving members throughout western Argentina. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)
Nearest Operating Temple
Until the Mendoza Argentina Temple is dedicated, members in western Argentina primarily attend the Buenos Aires Argentina Temple or the Córdoba Argentina Temple, depending on where they live. Once completed, the Mendoza Temple will significantly reduce travel times for thousands of Latter-day Saints in Mendoza Province and neighboring regions, including members living near the Chilean border. Final Thoughts
The Mendoza Argentina Temple represents another important milestone in the continued growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina. As construction moves forward, the temple will bring sacred ordinances much closer to faithful members throughout western Argentina. With each stage of progress, it moves closer to becoming a lasting blessing for generations of Latter-day Saints in the region. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)
