Medellín Colombia Temple: What We Know So Far

Announcement

The Medellín Colombia Temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the October 2024 General Conference on October 6, 2024. It will become the fourth temple in Colombia, joining the Bogotá Colombia Temple, Barranquilla Colombia Temple, and the Cali Colombia Temple. The announcement reflects the continued growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout Colombia. Today, the country is home to more than 215,000 members in nearly 260 congregations.

Medellín, Colombia's second-largest city and often called the "City of Eternal Spring," is one of the nation's most important economic and cultural centers. The future temple will bless members throughout the Antioquia region by bringing temple worship much closer to home.

Current Status

The Medellín Colombia Temple is currently in the planning and approval phase. On July 13, 2026, the Church announced the temple site, located on a 3.05-acre property at Carrera 52 #4-96 in the Guayabal neighborhood of Medellín.

Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 10,471 square feet (973 square meters), accompanied by an ancillary building. As of now, no official exterior rendering has been released, and no groundbreaking date has been announced.

What to Watch for Next

The next major milestone will be the release of the official exterior rendering, followed by the announcement of the groundbreaking ceremony. After construction is complete, the Church will announce dates for the public open house and temple dedication, allowing the local community to tour the temple before it is dedicated.

Nearest Operating Temple

Until the Medellín Colombia Temple is completed, members in northwestern Colombia generally travel to the Bogotá Colombia Temple, while others may attend the Barranquilla Colombia Temple or the future Cali Colombia Temple, depending on where they live. Once dedicated, the Medellín Temple will significantly reduce travel for thousands of Latter-day Saints throughout the Antioquia region and neighboring areas.

Final Thoughts

The Medellín Colombia Temple represents another important milestone in the continued growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Colombia. As the nation's fourth temple, it will make temple worship more accessible for faithful members in one of Colombia's largest metropolitan areas. Although still in the early planning stages, the announcement of the temple site marks meaningful progress toward the day this sacred house of the Lord will serve generations of Latter-day Saints in Medellín and throughout northwestern Colombia.
