The Maceió Brazil Temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2022 General Conference on April 3, 2022. It will become one of the many temples serving Brazil, a nation with more than 1.5 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in over 2,100 congregations. Current Status
The Maceió Brazil Temple is currently under construction. The temple site was announced on August 7, 2023, and is located on Avenida Menino Marcelo in the Cidade Universitária neighborhood of Maceió. The property encompasses approximately 5.5 acres. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)
The official exterior rendering was released on February 12, 2024, and groundbreaking services were held on August 31, 2024, with Elder Jorge T. Becerra, Second Counselor in the Brazil Area Presidency, presiding. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 29,000 square feet, along with an arrival center and patron housing.
