The Lone Mountain Nevada Temple is one of the newest temples under construction by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Located in the Lone Mountain area of northwest Las Vegas, it will become the second temple in the Las Vegas Valley and the fourth temple in Nevada. Once completed, it will provide a closer house of the Lord for thousands of Latter-day Saints living in the rapidly growing northwest portion of the city.
A Brief History
President Russell M. Nelson announced the Lone Mountain Nevada Temple during the October 2022 General Conference on October 2, 2022. At the time of the announcement, Nevada was home to approximately 180,000 members of the Church in more than 360 congregations. The new temple reflected the continued growth of the Church throughout southern Nevada.
The temple site was announced on December 12, 2022, on a 19.8-acre property southwest of Hickman Avenue between North Grand Canyon Drive and Tee Pee Lane. The Church released the official exterior rendering on February 26, 2024, and after receiving city approval, groundbreaking services were held on September 25, 2025, with Elder Michael A. Dunn presiding. Construction is now well underway, with structural framing rising and exterior precast concrete panels being installed.
What Makes This Temple Unique?
One of the Lone Mountain Nevada Temple's most distinctive features is its prominent location near Lone Mountain, one of the best-known natural landmarks in northwest Las Vegas. The temple's elevated setting will make it visible from many parts of the valley while providing beautiful views of the surrounding desert and nearby mountain ranges.
The temple will feature a single attached central tower rising approximately 196 feet above the ground. The tower height was adjusted during the planning process, allowing the design to avoid requiring a flashing aviation beacon while preserving its elegant appearance. The finished temple will contain approximately 70,194 square feet with four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and one baptistry.
Another unique distinction is that the Lone Mountain Nevada Temple will make Las Vegas the ninth city in the world with more than one temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It will help reduce travel times and ease demand at the Las Vegas Nevada Temple, which has faithfully served southern Nevada since 1989.
Visiting the Temple
The future Lone Mountain Nevada Temple is being constructed in the Lone Mountain neighborhood of northwest Las Vegas. Because the temple is still under construction, it is not yet open for public tours. A construction visitors' center currently welcomes guests who would like to learn about the project and observe its progress. Before the temple is dedicated, the Church will host a public open house, allowing everyone to tour the completed building.
