Laoag Philippines Temple: What We Know So Far

Announcement

The Laoag Philippines Temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the October 2023 General Conference on October 1, 2023. It will become the 13th temple announced for the Philippines, reflecting the continued growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in one of the Church's fastest-growing nations. Laoag City, the capital of Ilocos Norte Province, is located in the northwestern region of Luzon and serves as the economic and cultural center of the Ilocos Region. At the time of the announcement, the Philippines was home to more than 850,000 members in approximately 1,275 congregations.

Current Status

The Laoag Philippines Temple is currently in the planning and approval phase. At this time, no official temple site has been announced, no exterior rendering has been released, and no groundbreaking date has been scheduled. Church leaders continue working through the early planning process before additional details are made public.

What to Watch for Next

The next major milestones will be the announcement of the temple site, followed by the release of the official exterior rendering. After those announcements, the Church will schedule a groundbreaking ceremony before construction begins. Once construction is complete, the Church will announce dates for the public open house and temple dedication.

Nearest Operating Temple

Until the Laoag Philippines Temple is completed, members in the Ilocos Region primarily attend the Urdaneta Philippines Temple, which was dedicated in 2024. The new temple will significantly reduce travel for Latter-day Saints living in northwestern Luzon, allowing thousands of members to participate in temple ordinances much closer to home.

Final Thoughts

The Laoag Philippines Temple represents another important milestone in the continued growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippines. As the first temple planned for the Ilocos Region, it will bring sacred temple blessings closer to thousands of faithful members throughout northern Luzon. Although the project is still in its earliest planning stages, its announcement demonstrates the Church's ongoing commitment to making temple worship more accessible across the Philippines and around the world.
