Kaohsiung Taiwan Temple: What We Know So Far

Announcement

The Kaohsiung Taiwan Temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2022 General Conference on April 3, 2022. It will become the second temple in Taiwan, following the Taipei Taiwan Temple, and reflects the continued growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout the island. At the time of the announcement, Taiwan was home to more than 62,000 members in approximately 100 congregations. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)

Current Status

The Kaohsiung Taiwan Temple is currently under construction. The temple site was announced on August 14, 2023, at No. 86, Kaixuan 2nd Road, in Lingya District, Kaohsiung City. The official exterior rendering was released on August 26, 2024, and groundbreaking services were held on November 30, 2024, with Elder Peter F. Meurs, President of the Asia Area, presiding. Plans call for a multi-story temple of approximately 14,500 square feet. The temple complex will also include patron housing, an arrival center, and a distribution center, providing valuable resources for members throughout southern Taiwan. Construction is progressing steadily as crews continue work on the structure. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)

What to Watch for Next

As construction continues, the next major milestones will include completion of the building's exterior, installation of interior finishes, landscaping, and eventually the announcement of public open house and temple dedication dates. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)

Nearest Operating Temple

Until the Kaohsiung Taiwan Temple is dedicated, members in southern Taiwan continue to attend the Taipei Taiwan Temple, which has served the island since 1984. Once completed, the new temple will significantly reduce travel for Latter-day Saints living in southern Taiwan and provide greater access to temple ordinances throughout the region. Final Thoughts

The Kaohsiung Taiwan Temple marks an exciting new chapter for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Taiwan. As the island's second temple, it will make temple worship much more accessible for members in the south while supporting the Church's continued growth. With construction now underway, each milestone brings the temple one step closer to serving generations of faithful Latter-day Saints in Taiwan. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)
