Jacksonville Florida Temple: History, Unique Features, and Visitor Guide

The Jacksonville Florida Temple is one of the newest temples under construction by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Located in northeast Florida, the temple will become the fifth temple built in Florida and the first in the Jacksonville area. Once completed, it will provide a much closer place of worship for members throughout northeast Florida and southeast Georgia.

A Brief History

President Russell M. Nelson announced the Jacksonville Florida Temple during the October 2022 General Conference on October 2, 2022. At the time of the announcement, Florida was home to more than 160,000 members of the Church in over 280 congregations. The new temple reflected the continued growth of the Church across the Sunshine State.

On February 20, 2024, the Church announced the temple site at 3323 Loretto Road in Jacksonville. An official exterior rendering was released on December 16, 2024, and groundbreaking services were held on January 24, 2026, with Elder Massimo De Feo presiding. Construction is currently underway, with the temple foundation already taking shape.

What Makes This Temple Unique?

One of the Jacksonville Florida Temple's most unique features is its historical significance. Jacksonville was home to the first stake organized in the southern United States, making the city an important location in the history of the Church in the Southeast. The temple continues that legacy by bringing a house of the Lord to a region with a long and faithful Latter-day Saint history.

The temple will feature a beautiful single-story design with a single attached central tower. Plans call for approximately 29,000 square feet, including two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry, creating a temple that is both elegant and well suited to the needs of the growing membership in northeast Florida.

Another unique aspect is its location in Jacksonville, the largest city by land area in the contiguous United States. The temple will be conveniently located for members traveling from communities across northeast Florida and parts of southeast Georgia.

Visiting the Temple

The Jacksonville Florida Temple is located at 3323 Loretto Road in Jacksonville, Florida. Because the temple is still under construction, it is not yet open to the public. Before its dedication, the Church will host a public open house, allowing visitors to tour the temple and learn more about its sacred purpose.
