Announcement
The Iloilo Philippines Temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2023 General Conference on April 2, 2023. It will become the 12th temple announced for the Philippines, reflecting the remarkable growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the country. At the time of the announcement, the Philippines was home to more than 850,000 members in nearly 1,275 congregations, making it one of the Church's largest membership populations outside the United States.
Current Status
The Iloilo Philippines Temple is currently in the planning and approval phase. On February 23, 2026, the Church announced both the temple site and the official exterior rendering. The temple will be built on a 7.7-acre site located along Circumferential Road 1 at its intersection with Green Meadows Avenue in Barangay Tacas, Jaro District, Iloilo City.
Plans call for a single-story temple containing approximately 18,850 square feet. The temple complex will also include patron housing, an arrival center, a distribution center, and a meetinghouse. At this time, no groundbreaking date has been announced.
What to Watch for Next
The next major milestone will be the announcement of the groundbreaking ceremony. After construction begins, the Church will provide updates as the temple progresses toward completion before announcing dates for the public open house and temple dedication.
Nearest Operating Temple
Until the Iloilo Philippines Temple is completed, members in western Visayas primarily travel to the Bacolod Philippines Temple, which was dedicated in 2026, or the Cebu City Philippines Temple, depending on where they live. The new temple will greatly reduce travel for members living on Panay Island and nearby areas of the central Philippines.
Final Thoughts
The Iloilo Philippines Temple represents another important milestone in the continued growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippines. As the first temple planned for Panay Island, it will bring temple blessings much closer to thousands of faithful members throughout the region. Although construction has not yet begun, the announcement of the temple site and official rendering marks significant progress toward the future dedication of this sacred house of the Lord.
