Fort Worth Texas Temple: History, Unique Features, and Visitor Guide

The Fort Worth Texas Temple is one of the newest temples under construction by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Located in Burleson, just south of Fort Worth, the temple will become an important house of the Lord for members throughout the western portion of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Once completed, it will reduce travel for thousands of Latter-day Saints living in one of the fastest-growing regions in Texas.

A Brief History

President Russell M. Nelson announced the Fort Worth Texas Temple during the October 2021 General Conference on October 3, 2021. At the time of the announcement, Texas was home to more than 360,000 members of the Church, and the new temple reflected the continued growth of the Church throughout the state.

The temple site at 1851 Greenridge Drive in Burleson was announced on October 31, 2022. Plans called for a single-story temple of approximately 30,000 square feet on a 9.37-acre property. Groundbreaking services were held on October 28, 2023, with Elder José L. Alonso presiding. Construction is now in its final stages, with interior finishing work and landscaping underway as the Church prepares for a future public open house and dedication.

What Makes This Temple Unique?

One of the Fort Worth Texas Temple's most distinctive features is its location. Although it carries the name "Fort Worth," the temple is actually being built in Burleson, allowing it to conveniently serve members across western Dallas–Fort Worth while remaining easily accessible from surrounding communities.

The temple's design follows the Church's elegant modern architectural style, featuring a single attached central spire rising above a bright stone exterior. Large windows, thoughtfully designed landscaping, and a peaceful campus will provide a welcoming environment for worship and reflection.

Another unique aspect is the temple's timing. It is part of a remarkable period of temple growth in Texas, joining several recently dedicated, under-construction, and announced temples that are bringing temple blessings closer to members throughout the state.

Visiting the Temple

The Fort Worth Texas Temple is located at 1851 Greenridge Drive in Burleson, Texas. Since construction is still underway, the temple is not yet open to the public. Before its dedication, the Church will host a public open house, allowing visitors to tour the temple and learn more about its purpose before it is formally dedicated.
