The Fort Collins Colorado Temple is the second temple built in Colorado and serves members throughout northern Colorado and southeastern Wyoming. Dedicated in 2016, the temple sits on a peaceful hillside in southeast Fort Collins and is known for its beautiful mountain-inspired design, elegant water features, and breathtaking views of the nearby Rocky Mountains.
A Brief History
President Thomas S. Monson announced the Fort Collins Colorado Temple during the April 2011 General Conference on April 2, 2011. At the time, approximately 140,000 members of the Church lived throughout Colorado, making a second temple in the state an important milestone.
The temple site at the intersection of Timberline Road and Trilby Road was announced on June 8, 2011, and groundbreaking services were held on August 24, 2013, with Elder Ronald A. Rasband presiding. Following a 22-day public open house that welcomed more than 105,000 visitors, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf dedicated the temple on October 16, 2016, making it the 153rd dedicated temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
What Makes This Temple Unique?
One of the Fort Collins Colorado Temple's most distinctive features is its design, which celebrates the natural beauty of Colorado. Decorative art glass incorporates mountain wildflowers, while interior finishes include patterns inspired by the Rocky Mountains and the region's Spanish heritage. These details create a warm and meaningful connection to northern Colorado.
The temple's entrance plaza is centered around a beautiful reflecting fountain surrounded by colorful flowers, shrubs, and carefully landscaped gardens. Combined with its location near the foothills, the grounds provide a peaceful place for reflection and have become one of the area's most recognizable landmarks.
Another interesting aspect of the temple's history is the careful planning that went into its construction. Church leaders worked closely with the city and local residents to address concerns regarding traffic and neighborhood development before construction began, helping create a temple that blends beautifully into the surrounding community.
Visiting the Temple
