A Brief History

President Russell M. Nelson announced the Farmington New Mexico Temple during the April 2021 General Conference on April 4, 2021. The announcement reflected the Church's continuing effort to bring temples closer to members throughout the world.

The temple site at 4400 College Boulevard in Farmington was announced on July 28, 2021, and an exterior rendering followed in October 2021. Groundbreaking services were held on April 30, 2022, with Elder Neil L. Andersen presiding. Following a public open house that welcomed thousands of visitors, President Russell M. Nelson dedicated the temple on August 17, 2025, making it the 204th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)

What Makes This Temple Unique?

One of the Farmington New Mexico Temple's most distinctive features is its location near the Four Corners, where New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado meet. This central location allows the temple to serve members across four different states, greatly reducing travel for many families. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)

The temple's design celebrates the beauty of the American Southwest. Decorative art glass, warm earth tones, and native-inspired patterns reflect the region's landscape and cultural heritage. A graceful single attached central spire rises above the temple, while carefully landscaped grounds create a peaceful setting for worship and reflection. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)

Another meaningful aspect of the temple is its proximity to communities with strong Native American traditions, making it an important spiritual center for members from diverse backgrounds throughout the region.
