Fairview Texas Temple: History, Unique Features, and Visitor Guide

The Fairview Texas Temple is one of the newest temples under construction by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Located in Fairview, just northeast of Dallas, the temple will serve thousands of members throughout the rapidly growing northern Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Once completed, it will become the eighth temple in Texas and the third temple serving the Dallas–Fort Worth area.

A Brief History

President Russell M. Nelson announced the temple during the October 2022 General Conference on October 2, 2022. The project was originally announced as the Prosper Texas Temple before later being renamed the McKinney Texas Temple. In 2025, the Church officially renamed it the Fairview Texas Temple to reflect its actual location.

On December 4, 2023, the Church announced the temple site at 681 East Stacy Road in Fairview. An official rendering was released in February 2024, and after revisions to the design, groundbreaking services were held on February 21, 2026, with Elder Jonathan S. Schmitt presiding. Construction is now underway.

What Makes This Temple Unique?

One of the most unique aspects of the Fairview Texas Temple is its journey from announcement to construction. The temple experienced multiple name changes and design revisions before receiving final approval, making it one of the more closely followed temple projects in recent years.

The approved design features a beautiful single attached central spire rising 120 feet above the temple. The one-story structure includes elegant white stone, decorative art glass, and carefully landscaped grounds that blend with the surrounding community while maintaining the timeless architectural style found in modern temples.

Another unique feature is the temple's location along what local residents often call "Church Row," where several houses of worship are located near one another. The temple will serve nearly 23,000 Church members from communities including Fairview, McKinney, Allen, Frisco, Prosper, and Sherman.

Visiting the Temple

Before the temple is dedicated, the Church will host a public open house, allowing everyone to tour the building and learn more about the purpose of temples. Open house and dedication dates have not yet been announced.
