El Paso Texas Temple: History, Unique Features, and Visitor Guide

The El Paso Texas Temple is one of the newest temples announced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Once completed, it will become the 10th temple announced for Texas, bringing the blessings of temple worship closer to members in far west Texas and neighboring communities. The announcement was especially exciting for Latter-day Saints in the region, many of whom have traveled long distances or crossed international borders to attend the temple.

A Brief History

President Russell M. Nelson announced the El Paso Texas Temple during the October 2024 General Conference on October 6, 2024. At the time of the announcement, Texas was home to more than 385,000 members of the Church in over 750 congregations, making it one of the largest Church populations in the United States.

As of today, the temple remains in the planning phase. An official site location has not yet been announced, no rendering has been released, and a groundbreaking date has not been scheduled. Additional information will be shared as planning progresses.

What Makes This Temple Unique?

The El Paso Texas Temple will become the first temple in far west Texas, significantly reducing travel for members living in El Paso, nearby communities in southern New Mexico, and surrounding areas. For many years, members in the region have traveled several hours to other temples to participate in temple ordinances.

Its location also makes it unique because El Paso sits along the United States–Mexico border, where members from multiple countries have long shared close ties. The future temple will strengthen the Church in this growing border region and provide a convenient place of worship for thousands of members.

Although the temple's architectural design has not yet been revealed, members eagerly anticipate another beautiful house of the Lord that will become a landmark for one of Texas's most historic and culturally rich cities.

Visiting the Temple

The future El Paso Texas Temple will be built somewhere in the El Paso area, though the exact location has not yet been announced. Once construction is complete, the Church will host a public open house, giving everyone the opportunity to tour the temple before it is dedicated. Until then, visitors can follow updates as plans continue to develop.
