The Coeur d'Alene Idaho Temple is one of the newest temples announced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Once completed, it will become the 10th announced temple in Idaho, providing a house of the Lord for members throughout northern Idaho and nearby communities. Located in one of the Pacific Northwest's most beautiful regions, the temple will stand near forests, lakes, and mountains that make Coeur d'Alene a favorite destination for visitors year-round.
A Brief History
President Russell M. Nelson announced the Coeur d'Alene Idaho Temple during the October 2024 General Conference on October 6, 2024. The announcement was especially meaningful for members in northern Idaho, who have traditionally traveled to the Spokane Washington Temple or other nearby temples for worship.
On November 10, 2025, the Church announced the temple site at the corner of Hanley Avenue and Coeur Terre Boulevard in Coeur d'Alene. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 29,630 square feet, along with a meetinghouse and an ancillary building on a 10.91-acre property. Site preparation and utility work were approved in 2026, and the groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for August 29, 2026.
What Makes This Temple Unique?
The Coeur d'Alene Idaho Temple will be the first temple in northern Idaho, bringing temple blessings significantly closer to members throughout the Idaho Panhandle. Its location will reduce travel for many families who have faithfully attended temples in neighboring states for years.
Another unique aspect of the project is its beautiful location. Coeur d'Alene is known for Lake Coeur d'Alene, dense evergreen forests, and nearby mountain ranges, making the future temple one of the most scenic temple locations in the Pacific Northwest. The surrounding landscape is expected to complement the temple's elegant design and peaceful atmosphere.
An official rendering released in 2025 shows a graceful temple with a single attached central spire and classic architectural styling. The property will also include a meetinghouse, creating a beautiful campus that will serve members throughout the region.
Visiting the Temple
The future Coeur d'Alene Idaho Temple will be located at the corner of Hanley Avenue and Coeur Terre Boulevard in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. While the temple is still under development, visitors can follow its construction progress and look forward to a public open house before the temple is dedicated. The location is only minutes from beautiful Lake Coeur d'Alene, making it an excellent destination for those combining temple visits with sightseeing in northern Idaho.
