Chihuahua Mexico Temple: History, Architecture, and Travel Guide

Where It's Located

The Chihuahua Mexico Temple is planned for a 5.87-acre site at the intersection of Avenida de la Cantera and Avenida Real Escondido in the Reserva Territorial la Hacienda neighborhood of Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico. The temple will serve members throughout the region and become the third temple in the state of Chihuahua.

Because the temple is still in the planning phase, it is not yet open for temple worship or public visits.

Getting There

The nearest major airport is General Roberto Fierro Villalobos International Airport (CUU), which serves the city of Chihuahua. Travelers from the United States can reach Chihuahua on nonstop flights from several U.S. cities, including Dallas/Fort Worth and Denver, or by connecting through major Mexican hubs such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, or Monterrey. The future temple site is approximately a 30-minute drive from the airport.

A Bit of History

The Chihuahua Mexico Temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2024 General Conference. It will become the 25th temple announced for Mexico and the third temple in the state of Chihuahua, joining the Colonia Juárez Chihuahua Mexico Temple and the Ciudad Juárez Mexico Temple. At the time of the announcement, Mexico was home to more than 1.5 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in over 1,875 congregations.

On June 9, 2025, the Church announced the temple's location and released the first official exterior rendering. The project is currently in the planning and approval phase, and no groundbreaking date has been announced.

Design and Architecture

Plans call for a temple containing approximately 19,000 square feet of floor space. The design features a single attached central spire and will stand at an elevation of approximately 5,043 feet above sea level.

The released rendering shows a light-colored exterior with classic architectural styling, landscaped grounds, and a prominent central spire that will make the temple a recognizable landmark in Chihuahua. Additional architectural details and interior layouts have not yet been announced.

Final Thoughts

The Chihuahua Mexico Temple represents another important milestone in the continued growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico. Once completed, it will provide greater access to temple worship for members in northern Mexico while becoming the third house of the Lord in the state of Chihuahua. As the project progresses, future announcements will provide details about the groundbreaking, public open house, and dedication.
