The Cedar City Utah Temple is a beautiful landmark in southern Utah, serving members throughout Iron County and the surrounding region. Dedicated in 2017, it became the 17th temple in Utah and reflects the rich pioneer heritage, natural beauty, and faith of the people who settled southern Utah. With its classic architecture and mountain backdrop, the temple has quickly become one of the most recognizable buildings in Cedar City. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)

A Brief History

President Thomas S. Monson announced the Cedar City Utah Temple during the April 2013 General Conference on April 6, 2013. The announcement was especially meaningful because members in the area had long traveled to the St. George or Provo temples to participate in temple worship.

Groundbreaking took place on August 8, 2015, with President Henry B. Eyring presiding. Following a six-week public open house that welcomed nearly 280,000 visitors, President Eyring returned to dedicate the temple on December 10, 2017. The Cedar City Utah Temple became the 159th dedicated temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)

What Makes This Temple Unique?

The Cedar City Utah Temple was designed to honor the history and culture of southern Utah. Its architecture was inspired by the Gothic Revival style, similar to the historic Cedar City Tabernacle located downtown. The exterior features elegant arches, detailed stonework, and a soaring 173-foot central spire that can be seen from many parts of the city. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)

Inside the temple, decorative art glass and custom artwork celebrate the area's pioneer legacy and natural surroundings. Floral patterns inspired by Indian paintbrush, sego lilies, and local wildflowers appear throughout the temple, while paintings depict nearby landmarks such as Cedar Breaks National Monument, Zion National Park, and the surrounding red rock landscapes. Rich woodwork, custom furnishings, and warm earth-tone colors create a peaceful atmosphere that reflects southern Utah's beauty. (churchofjesuschristtemples.org)

Another unique feature is the temple's location near the foothills overlooking Cedar City. The elevated site provides beautiful views of the surrounding mountains while allowing the temple's illuminated spire to be visible throughout much of the community.

Visiting the Temple

The Cedar City Utah Temple is located at 280 South Cove Drive in Cedar City, Utah. The temple includes an arrival center and an on-site distribution center, making it convenient for patrons traveling from throughout southern Utah and eastern Nevada. Although there is no visitors' center, the beautifully landscaped grounds are open to the public and offer walking paths, seasonal flowers, and breathtaking mountain views. (churchofjesuschrist.org)
