Casper Wyoming Temple: History, Unique Features, and Visitor Guide

The Casper Wyoming Temple is a beautiful addition to the growing number of temples in the Mountain West. Dedicated in 2024, it became the second temple in Wyoming, bringing temple blessings closer to members throughout central and northeastern Wyoming as well as western South Dakota. Surrounded by Wyoming's wide-open landscapes, the temple reflects the rugged beauty and pioneer heritage of the region.

A Brief History

President Russell M. Nelson announced the Casper Wyoming Temple during the April 2021 General Conference on April 4, 2021. Just a few months later, the Church selected a 9.52-acre site at the corner of Wyoming Boulevard and Eagle Drive in southwest Casper.

Groundbreaking took place on October 9, 2021, with Elder S. Gifford Nielsen presiding. After a 16-day public open house in late summer 2024, Elder Quentin L. Cook dedicated the temple on November 24, 2024, making it the 201st dedicated temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

What Makes This Temple Unique?

The Casper Wyoming Temple was designed to reflect the natural beauty of Wyoming. The landscaping features native grasses, large boulders, evergreens, and local plants, creating a setting inspired by the state's rocky prairies while emphasizing water conservation.

Inside the temple, many artistic details celebrate Wyoming's heritage. Decorative art glass and painted designs feature the Indian paintbrush, Wyoming's state flower, along with geometric Native American-inspired patterns. Original artwork throughout the temple depicts Wyoming landscapes, including paintings such as Wyoming Sunrise, Wyoming Cottonwoods, and Heaven's Portal, helping connect visitors with the area's natural beauty.

Although modest in size, the temple is beautifully appointed with elegant crystal lighting, custom rugs, rich woodwork, and carefully selected stone finishes. Its 97-foot central tower provides a graceful landmark visible throughout southwest Casper.

Visiting the Temple

The Casper Wyoming Temple is located at 3011 Independence Court in Casper. A distribution center is available on site, making it convenient for members to purchase temple clothing and garments. While there is no visitors' center or patron housing, the peaceful grounds are open for visitors to enjoy. The temple's location also provides convenient access for those traveling to historic Church sites such as Martin's Cove and other pioneer landmarks in Wyoming.
