Campo Grande Brazil Temple: What We Know So Far

Announcement

The Campo Grande Brazil Temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2025 General Conference. It will become the 24th temple announced for Brazil and the first temple in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. At the time of the announcement, Brazil was home to more than 1.5 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, making it the country with the third-largest Latter-day Saint population outside the United States.

Current Status

The temple is planned for a 5.6-acre site at the intersection of Avenida Nelly Martins and Rua Cigana in the Carandá Bosque neighborhood of Campo Grande, Brazil. The Church announced the location on July 13, 2026. Plans call for a single-story temple containing approximately 11,300 square feet of floor space.

The project is currently in the planning and approval phase. No official exterior rendering has been released, no groundbreaking date has been announced, and construction has not yet begun.

What to Watch for Next

The next major milestone will be the release of the temple's official exterior rendering, followed by the announcement of a groundbreaking ceremony. Once construction begins, the Church will provide updates on the temple's progress before eventually announcing dates for the public open house and dedication.

Nearest Operating Temple

Until the Campo Grande Brazil Temple is completed, members in the region continue to attend nearby operating temples such as the Brasília Brazil Temple, Campinas Brazil Temple, or other temples in Brazil, depending on where they live. The new temple will significantly reduce travel for Latter-day Saints throughout Mato Grosso do Sul and surrounding areas.

Final Thoughts

The Campo Grande Brazil Temple marks another important milestone in the continued growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil. As the first temple planned for Mato Grosso do Sul, it will bring temple blessings closer to thousands of members in Brazil's Central-West Region. While the project is still in its early planning stages, the announcement of the temple site is an exciting step toward its future construction and dedication.
