Where It's Located
The Brussels Belgium Temple is under construction at Avenue des Arts 52 in the heart of Brussels, Belgium's capital city. Unlike many temples built on newly developed properties, this temple is being created through the renovation of an existing multistory building in the city's central business district, near the Royal Palace of Brussels. The completed building will also include a meetinghouse and arrival facilities.
Because the temple is still under construction, it is not yet open for temple worship or public visits.
Getting There
The nearest major airport is Brussels Airport (BRU), Belgium's primary international airport. Travelers from the United States can fly nonstop from several major cities, including New York, Washington, D.C., and Chicago, or connect through other European hubs. From the airport, the temple site is approximately a 20-minute drive or can be reached using Brussels' public transportation network.
A Bit of History
The Brussels Belgium Temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2021 General Conference. It will become the first temple in Belgium, marking a historic milestone for the Church in the country. At the time of the announcement, approximately 7,000 Latter-day Saints lived in Belgium.
The Church announced the temple's location on June 17, 2024, confirming that the temple would be built within an existing building at Avenue des Arts 52. An official exterior rendering followed on January 13, 2025, and groundbreaking and site dedication were held on November 22, 2025, with Elder Jack N. Gerard, First Counselor in the Europe Central Area Presidency, presiding. Because the project is an interior renovation, no ceremonial turning of the soil took place. Construction is currently underway.
Design and Architecture
Plans call for a multistory temple containing approximately 25,500 square feet of floor space. The design features a single attached corner spire and will include a meetinghouse and arrival facilities within the same building. The temple will stand at an elevation of approximately 227 feet above sea level.
The Brussels Belgium Temple is one of the Church's few temples created through the adaptive reuse of an existing urban building. This approach allows the temple to fit naturally within the historic city center while providing a permanent house of the Lord in Belgium's capital.
Final Thoughts
The Brussels Belgium Temple represents a historic milestone for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Belgium. As the nation's first temple, it will bring temple worship much closer to members throughout the country while adding another house of the Lord in Europe. Its unique location in the heart of Brussels and innovative renovation of an existing building make it one of the Church's most distinctive temple projects. As construction continues, future milestones—including the public open house and dedication—will be announced.
