Where It's Located
The Brisbane Australia South Temple is under construction at 19–21 Wembley Road in Logan, Queensland, Australia. The temple is being built on a 7.26-acre site adjacent to an existing Church meetinghouse, making it easily accessible for members throughout the greater Brisbane area and southeastern Queensland. The property will also include patron housing and an arrival center. (https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/brisbane-australia-south-temple/)
Because the temple is still under construction, it is not yet open for temple worship or public visits.
Getting There
The nearest major airport is Brisbane Airport (BNE), Queensland's primary international airport. Travelers from the United States can reach Brisbane on nonstop flights from Los Angeles, with additional connecting options available through Sydney, Auckland, or other major Pacific hubs. From Brisbane Airport, the temple site is approximately a 35- to 45-minute drive, depending on traffic.
A Bit of History
The Brisbane Australia South Temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2023 General Conference. It will become the second temple in the Brisbane metropolitan area, joining the Brisbane Australia Temple, and the sixth temple in Australia. The Church announced the temple's location in May 2024, followed by the release of an official exterior rendering in September 2024. Groundbreaking and site dedication took place on October 26, 2024, with Elder Peter F. Meurs, President of the Pacific Area, presiding over the ceremony. Construction is currently progressing. The new temple will help accommodate continued Church growth in southeastern Queensland and provide additional temple capacity for members living throughout the region.
Design and Architecture
Plans call for a single-story temple containing approximately 30,000 square feet of floor space. The design features a single attached central tower and includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry. The temple complex will also feature patron housing and an arrival center to serve members traveling from across Queensland and neighboring areas. The temple's contemporary architectural design features clean lines, expansive windows, and light-colored exterior materials that complement the surrounding landscape while maintaining the timeless appearance characteristic of Latter-day Saint temples.
Final Thoughts
The Brisbane Australia South Temple represents another important milestone in the continued growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Australia. Once completed, it will provide additional temple capacity for members throughout southeastern Queensland while becoming another beautiful house of the Lord in the Pacific region. As construction continues, future milestones—including the public open house and dedication—will be announced.
