Where It's Located
The Brazzaville Republic of the Congo Temple is under construction on Avenue de la République (formerly 103 and 109 Rue Lamonthé) in the Bacongo neighborhood of Brazzaville, the capital and largest city of the Republic of the Congo. The temple sits on a 1.5-acre site and will also include patron housing and arrival facilities.
Because the temple is still under construction, it is not yet open for temple worship or public visits.
Getting There
The nearest major airport is Maya-Maya Airport (BZV), Brazzaville's international airport. Travelers from the United States typically connect through major international hubs such as Paris, Addis Ababa, Casablanca, or Istanbul before arriving in Brazzaville. From the airport, the temple site is approximately a 15- to 20-minute drive, depending on traffic.
A Bit of History
The Brazzaville Republic of the Congo Temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2022 General Conference. It will become the first temple in the Republic of the Congo, an important milestone for the Church in the country. At the time of the announcement, the Church had more than 8,000 members in 29 congregations, and members often traveled to neighboring countries to attend the temple.
On July 28, 2025, the Church announced the temple's location and released the first official exterior rendering. Groundbreaking and site dedication followed on August 23, 2025, with Elder Thierry K. Mutombo, President of the Africa Central Area, presiding over the ceremony. Construction is now underway.
The temple represents another significant step in the rapid growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout Central Africa and will make temple worship much more accessible for members in the Republic of the Congo.
Design and Architecture
Plans call for a single-story temple containing approximately 10,000 square feet of floor space. The design features a single attached central spire and will include one instruction room, one sealing room, and one baptistry. Patron housing and arrival facilities will also be constructed on the property to accommodate members traveling to the temple.
Final Thoughts
The Brazzaville Republic of the Congo Temple marks a historic milestone for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Republic of the Congo. As the nation's first temple, it will bring temple worship much closer to members who have faithfully traveled long distances for many years. As construction continues, future milestones—including the public open house and dedication—will be announced.
