Bentonville Arkansas Temple: History, Unique Features, and Visitor Guide

The Bentonville Arkansas Temple is the first temple ever built in the state of Arkansas. Located in the rapidly growing city of Bentonville, the temple serves members throughout northwest Arkansas and southwest Missouri. Surrounded by beautiful landscaping and inspired by the area's natural beauty and heritage, the temple stands as a symbol of faith and the continued growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the region.

A Brief History

President Russell M. Nelson announced the Bentonville Arkansas Temple during the October 2019 General Conference on October 5, 2019. The Church later selected a site just behind the Bentonville Arkansas Stake Center, providing easy access from Interstate 49 for members traveling from across the temple district.

Groundbreaking took place on November 7, 2020, with Elder David A. Bednar presiding remotely. After construction was completed, the temple welcomed the public during a two-week open house in June 2023 before being dedicated by Elder Bednar on September 17, 2023. The Bentonville Arkansas Temple became the 181st dedicated temple of the Church and the first house of the Lord in Arkansas.

What Makes This Temple Unique?

The Bentonville Arkansas Temple beautifully reflects the history and culture of Arkansas through its architecture and artwork. The custom art glass features dogwood blossoms, one of the state's most recognizable spring flowers. Sunburst and diamond patterns honor Arkansas as home to the only public diamond mine in the United States, while colorful quilt-inspired designs celebrate the area's rich American heritage.

The temple grounds continue these local themes with flowering dogwood trees and native landscaping that blend naturally with the surrounding environment. The elegant single central tower rises more than 111 feet, creating a beautiful landmark visible from nearby roadways.

The temple also has a special connection to Elder David A. Bednar. Before his call as an Apostle, he lived in Arkansas for many years, served as the first president of the Rogers Arkansas Stake, and played an important role in the growth of the Church throughout the region. He both dedicated the temple site and later dedicated the completed temple.

Visiting the Temple

The Bentonville Arkansas Temple is located at 1105 McCollum Drive in Bentonville. The temple includes a distribution center where members can purchase temple clothing and garments. While there is no visitors' center or patron housing, the beautifully landscaped grounds are open to visitors and provide a peaceful place to walk, reflect, and enjoy the surroundings.
