Beira Mozambique Temple: What We Know So Far

Announcement

The Beira Mozambique Temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2021 General Conference. It will be the first temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mozambique, marking a significant milestone for the growing Church in the country.

Current Status

The temple is planned for a 2.5-acre site on Avenida 24 de Julho in Beira, adjacent to an existing Church meetinghouse. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 10,000 square feet, along with patron housing and arrival facilities. The temple will include one instruction room, one sealing room, and one baptistry.

At this time, no groundbreaking date has been announced, and construction has not yet begun. An exterior rendering has also not yet been released publicly. The project remains in the planning and approval phase.

What to Watch for Next

The next major milestone will be the announcement of a groundbreaking ceremony. After construction begins, the Church will eventually release additional information about the temple's progress, followed by announcements for the public open house and dedication.

Nearest Operating Temple

Mozambique does not yet have an operating temple. Until the Beira Mozambique Temple is completed, members in the country continue traveling to temples in neighboring nations. The Church has also announced the Maputo Mozambique Temple, which will become the country's second temple in the future.

Final Thoughts

The Beira Mozambique Temple represents an exciting step forward for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mozambique. As the nation's first temple, it will bring temple blessings much closer to members who have long traveled outside the country to worship. Although the project is still in the planning stage, the announced location and confirmed plans provide an encouraging glimpse of what lies ahead.
